The Science Behind Magnetism & Magnetic Forces

As explained by IQS Directory in their article “What is the Principle of Magnets?,” magnets exert a force known as magnetic force, which can either attract or repel other materials without direct contact. While all materials exhibit some degree of magnetism, only certain metals, such as nickel, cobalt, iron, and steel, are strong enough to be classified as magnets.

How Magnetism Works

Magnetism originates from the behavior of electrons within atoms. As electrons spin around the nucleus, they generate tiny magnetic forces. In some materials, these electron spins align, creating a cumulative magnetic effect, resulting in a strong, visible magnetic field.
